Today’s #MemberCarMonday submission is from Mile Today’s #MemberCarMonday submission is from Miles, our former Treasurer and S-10 Revival Engineering lead. Swipe to see and read about the cursed “Annabelle,” his 1965 Ford Mustang. “I first got my mustang when I was 14 right after COVID hit. I always had an interest in cars from hot wheels to RC cars and everything in between so this was the next step to fuel my passion. We found the car on craigslist just outside of Atlanta and picked it up late in the summer. After getting it my mom made me put proper seatbelts in to replace the lap belts it came with stock. After a few safety upgrades I overhauled the main suspension components, bushings and upgraded the brakes. This made the car handle so much better and was a huge step up from the 60 year old technology. The car came swapped with a 302 ci V8 out of a 70s Ford F100 that suffered carburetor issues. After numerous rebuilds and part replacements I finally got it to run reliably. Next came overheating issues solved with a coolant flush and radiator cleaning/repair. For my senior project I got to prep and repaint the car myself, I went from the factory Bronze to the classic GT40 Le Mans color, Gulf Blue. This is the car that taught me how to work on and drive cars through Youtube videos and trial and error. No one in my family is mechanically inclined or as interested in cars as I am so I never had someone to show me how to do these things, but I learned how to teach myself. Nowadays I have plans for a manual transmission swap(currently has a 3speed slush box auto), power steering upgrade, cooling system improvements, hopefully an EFI swap, and more handling modifications.”

Keep reading to hear from our current Composites Co-lead, Matt! “I got this thing as a rust bucket off Facebook marketplace. It’s a 71 Chevy Nova, kind of. It’s really a 71 Pontiac Ventura but the previous owner had already changed the back end so I changed the front to finish the clone. My dad and I did patch panels, some replacement panels, and lots of massaging to shave some emblems/lights and get it looking pretty straight before painting it matte dark gray with gloss black accents. We redid the interior with stitched black leather, an aftermarket gauge cluster, race seats, newer speakers, headliner, and a carpet. It came with a junkyard small block and turbo 350 that quickly got pulled. For the engine, we assembled a stroker 383. It has a forged Eagle rotating assembly with 5.7” I beam rods, 4 bolt mains, a hydraulic roller cam, AFR heads, a little Weiand 142 blower, a Holley 4 barrel double pumper carb, and a Holley tunable distributor with a boost reference for tuning ignition timing. For the transmission, we went with a built 700r4 with a manual valve body. Other than that, we’ve added Caltracs, 3.73 gears, a geared positraction differential, tubular control arms, subframe connectors, QA1 sway bars, front disc brakes, exhaust cutouts, a line lock, and more. It’s now registered and on the road and makes a fun street/strip car, but projects never end.”

Happy #MemberCarMonday! Today’s post features ou Happy #MemberCarMonday! Today’s post features our current Skills Coordinator, Tyler’s, two Toyota trucks. Here’s what he has to say: “I am the proud owner of two very high milage Toyota trucks. The first of which is a 2011 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L V8. I received this truck as a hand-me-down from my dad at the age of 16. Having been used as a work truck in construction for 250,000 miles, just about everywhere you look there’s some sort of dent, scratch, or imperfection. But through the eyes of a very recently licensed high-schooler, it was the coolest thing in the world. I drove it every day though the rest of high school, watching as the odometer rolled past the 300,000 mile mark, until I came to tech and had to leave the truck behind. Now it rests in my parents driveway waiting for me to address some concerning problems (potential head gasket leak) until it can become a daily driver once more. When I got the truck, it already had a 4-inch lift kit and Fuel wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires. I mainly just handle maintenance and repairs; notably, I fixed a corroded four-wheel-drive actuator over the summer. Over the summer, I also purchased my 2007 single-cab, stick-shift Tacoma off Facebook Marketplace. I wanted something a little more convenient and fuel-efficient for getting around the city plus something to teach me how to drive manual while still being a little cool (in my eyes, at least). So far, it’s been a blast to drive and very handy for hauling stuff around. After buying the truck, I plasti-dipped the emblems and rusty stock wheels matte black. I also restored all of the plastic trim, including the grille and front bumper, and I sanded down the foggy headlights to make them look a little newer.”

Yesterday, the team had the honor of hearing from Yesterday, the team had the honor of hearing from three incredible seniors - Kandhan, Kyle, and Noah - as they shared their insights and wisdom before graduating this semester. Kandhan has served his time on Wreck Racing as Lead Engineer throughout both years of the 818ZX competitions. Later, he served as Powertrain Lead during the first year of the Conquest Build. After graduation, he will serve as a manufacturing engineer at Freeform. Kyle started out on Wreck Racing as Safety Officer during his first year in the club. During the first 818ZX season, he served as President and continued in this position for both years as well as interim president during the Conquest build cycle. Noah was Lead Engineer and Suspension Lead for the first build cycle of the Conquest TS4. He led the team to a 4th overall placement in the under-budget catagory at the 2025 Grassroots Motorsports $2000 challenge, giving the team an amazing foundation. Noah will be working for Honda R&D after graduation. On behalf of the entire team, we thank Kandhan, Kyle, and Noah for contributions and influence on our team, which will live on for years to come.

Today’s #MemberCarMonday is featuring former Wre Today’s #MemberCarMonday is featuring former Wreck Racing President, Kyle, and two of his cars. Keep reading to find out more about his pair of 2000s sport compacts! “The red car featured in the pictures is a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 Neon that I purchased in Michigan, where it then sat in my parent’s garage for a summer. I worked on the car through the summer and fall, installing new tires and Facebook marketplace coil overs, and fixing a few odds and ends to make the car drivable. With rust eating away at the body and frame, I drove the SRT-4 to Atlanta and back before selling it for a profit the following summer. The droning straight-piped exhaust, turbo flutter, and blow-off valve made for a memorable driving experience, as did the 5-speed manual transmission that I learned to drive stick shift with. The black car in the pictures is a 2003 Ford Focus SVT that I currently own and drive. Purchased for <$1500 in Dawsonville, GA, the SVT required new coils, plugs, a valve cover gasket, and a window regulator. After a few days of work, the car was perfect, save for some vibrations, missing interior pieces, somewhat blown shocks, and lack of air conditioning. A little more work will make the car better, but as for now I’m just enjoying rowing through the 6-speed gearbox and being a menace to the streets. With 170 horsepower, the car won’t get me in trouble, but shifting at 7000 rpm makes me feel like a racecar driver, nonetheless. I plan to keep the car and will be driving it to Michigan after graduation.”
