Happy #MemberCarMonday! Today’s post features ou Happy #MemberCarMonday! Today’s post features our current Skills Coordinator, Tyler’s, two Toyota trucks. Here’s what he has to say: “I am the proud owner of two very high milage Toyota trucks. The first of which is a 2011 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L V8. I received this truck as a hand-me-down from my dad at the age of 16. Having been used as a work truck in construction for 250,000 miles, just about everywhere you look there’s some sort of dent, scratch, or imperfection. But through the eyes of a very recently licensed high-schooler, it was the coolest thing in the world. I drove it every day though the rest of high school, watching as the odometer rolled past the 300,000 mile mark, until I came to tech and had to leave the truck behind. Now it rests in my parents driveway waiting for me to address some concerning problems (potential head gasket leak) until it can become a daily driver once more. When I got the truck, it already had a 4-inch lift kit and Fuel wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires. I mainly just handle maintenance and repairs; notably, I fixed a corroded four-wheel-drive actuator over the summer. Over the summer, I also purchased my 2007 single-cab, stick-shift Tacoma off Facebook Marketplace. I wanted something a little more convenient and fuel-efficient for getting around the city plus something to teach me how to drive manual while still being a little cool (in my eyes, at least). So far, it’s been a blast to drive and very handy for hauling stuff around. After buying the truck, I plasti-dipped the emblems and rusty stock wheels matte black. I also restored all of the plastic trim, including the grille and front bumper, and I sanded down the foggy headlights to make them look a little newer.”

Yesterday, the team had the honor of hearing from Yesterday, the team had the honor of hearing from three incredible seniors - Kandhan, Kyle, and Noah - as they shared their insights and wisdom before graduating this semester. Kandhan has served his time on Wreck Racing as Lead Engineer throughout both years of the 818ZX competitions. Later, he served as Powertrain Lead during the first year of the Conquest Build. After graduation, he will serve as a manufacturing engineer at Freeform. Kyle started out on Wreck Racing as Safety Officer during his first year in the club. During the first 818ZX season, he served as President and continued in this position for both years as well as interim president during the Conquest build cycle. Noah was Lead Engineer and Suspension Lead for the first build cycle of the Conquest TS4. He led the team to a 4th overall placement in the under-budget catagory at the 2025 Grassroots Motorsports $2000 challenge, giving the team an amazing foundation. Noah will be working for Honda R&D after graduation. On behalf of the entire team, we thank Kandhan, Kyle, and Noah for contributions and influence on our team, which will live on for years to come.

Keep reading to find out more about his pair of 2000s sport compacts! “The red car featured in the pictures is a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 Neon that I purchased in Michigan, where it then sat in my parent’s garage for a summer. I worked on the car through the summer and fall, installing new tires and Facebook marketplace coil overs, and fixing a few odds and ends to make the car drivable. With rust eating away at the body and frame, I drove the SRT-4 to Atlanta and back before selling it for a profit the following summer. The droning straight-piped exhaust, turbo flutter, and blow-off valve made for a memorable driving experience, as did the 5-speed manual transmission that I learned to drive stick shift with. The black car in the pictures is a 2003 Ford Focus SVT that I currently own and drive. Purchased for <$1500 in Dawsonville, GA, the SVT required new coils, plugs, a valve cover gasket, and a window regulator. After a few days of work, the car was perfect, save for some vibrations, missing interior pieces, somewhat blown shocks, and lack of air conditioning. A little more work will make the car better, but as for now I’m just enjoying rowing through the 6-speed gearbox and being a menace to the streets. With 170 horsepower, the car won’t get me in trouble, but shifting at 7000 rpm makes me feel like a racecar driver, nonetheless. I plan to keep the car and will be driving it to Michigan after graduation.”

It’s Monday so today we’re featuring Garrett f It’s Monday so today we’re featuring Garrett for #MemberCarMonday! He recently joined Wreck Racing on the Dynamics subteam. Read more about his Mustang below: “When I was a freshman in high school my dad got me a salvage title 2011 Mustang GT as my first car. Over the last 5 years he taught me nearly everything I know about cars by helping me bring it back to life with the various fixes and maintenance we did to it. The two biggest things done to it were finished almost one year ago. First, since the paint was almost completely ruined and the bumpers didn’t match the body, we wrapped it. Second, since the old gen 1 Coyote engine it had was nearing 200k miles, we swapped in a gen 2 Coyote to replace it, which improved its performance and reliability.”

Today’s #MemberCarMonday we’re featuring Leon’s Mazda3! Leon has been on the team for 2 years and is our current treasurer. Let’s take a look at his car and its journey so far. “I bought my car in summer of 2024 from a dealer, used. I was itching to learn stick in a car that was simultaneously economic, comfortable, not ugly, and not a complete snoozer (I came from a dying ‘09 Camry). My 2014 Mazda3 “Schmazda” came from the rusty northeast and has the underbody to prove it. I’ve raced it, chased dragon tails in it, moved twice in it, gone on cross-country roadtrips in it, and have been an all-around terrible driver. The 140,000-mile factory clutch is still strong, despite the many times I’ve stalled and slammed the clutch, the two friends I taught to drive, and my need to make a 155-HP car feel “fast.” So far, the car has a Torque Solutions short shifter plate, OEM NC Miata 17” wheels wrapped in Hankook Ventus tires, Racing Beat springs, a Progress Tech rear sway bar, a Mishimoto weighted shift knob, a fresh oil change, and too many stickers.”

This #MemberCarMonday, we’re featuring Cade Woot This #MemberCarMonday, we’re featuring Cade Wooten and his ‘96 Starlet. Here’s what Cade had to say about his car: “I drive a 1996 Toyota Starlet, a right hand drive JDM hatchback. I have dubbed it “The Goober”. My parents bought it for me (after some convincing) as my first car back in October of 2023. The guy we got it from had already imported the car to the states, so we didn’t have any issues registering it. I had always been fascinated with weird cars that went unnoticed, so when my mom sent me this on Marketplace I instantly wanted it. The car runs incredibly well for being as old as it is. When purchased, it had the equivalent of 18k miles on the odometer. For a 90s Toyota that is essentially brand new. Most of the things I have done to it have been basic maintenance. So far I have changed the oil twice, gotten an alignment, and rotated the tires a couple of times. The only aesthetic mod on the car is the hubcaps. The original hubcaps were cracked and broken, so I found OEM caps from a 1993 Toyots Tercel to keep that period correct look. I plan on keeping it as long as it runs, which will likely be a while considering the mileage. I also plan on keeping it stock the entire time, as I like feeling like I am driving a time capsule. All in all I love this car. Please buy weird little JDM cars. Here are some other fun facts about The Goober: - 75hp 1.3L I4 with a 3 speed auto (yes 3) - No tachometer only loud engine sounds - It gets 40mpg unless you take it on the interstate - The indicators and wipers are flipped so if I drive any normal car I always turn on the wipers by accident - It has a reverse beep - Only one airbag in the steering wheel - Japan didn’t require 3rd brake lights in the 90s so it doesn’t have one - People often double take because they don’t realize I’m on the wrong side at first.”
