The Build
The original intention of Wreck Racing was to move on from the 818ZX and build a new car from the ground up for the 2024 competition. However, with the change in recoup rules, an extra thousand dollars was opened up for us to make the 818 one of the best cars the club has ever built. With the extra money in mind, we had multiple engineering meetings, discussing what direction we should head with the car, and what could use the most improvement. At the 2023 challenge, we lacked power in naturally aspirated form, had little aerodynamics to help with grip, shifted poorly due to stretching cables, broke our throttle cable, and faced reliability issues with our transmission setup. Needless to say, there was plenty to improve. So we attempted to improve as much as we could.
The goal of this car, above all, is to win the competition. Besides that, we hope to see all of our improvements make a difference, from the turbo to the splitter to the adjusted steering column. Though a challenge to finish due to many failures during testing, we managed to bring the car to the challenge, and are proud of our work.
